From Anglo-Norman obvencion, obvencyoun and Middle French obvention fee, revenue or their etymon classical Latin obventiōn-, obventiō (early 3rd cent. a.d. in legal texts, frequently in plural) from obvent-, past participial stem of obvenīre + -iō.
