Any of several flowering plants of the genus Silene (family Caryophyllaceae), having sticky stems, seeds, etc.; especially a Eurasian campion of rocks and crags, S. viscaria, having spikes of bright pink flowers and often dark sticky bands around the stem beneath each node (also called clammy campion, red catchfly).
