From post-classical Latin supplicavit, name of a writ, specific use of classical Latin supplicāvit ‘he (or she) has supplicated’, 3rd person singular perfect indicative of supplicāre supplicate; so called from the first words of the writ: supplicavit nobis ‘he (or she) has supplicated us’.
